A Japanese Martial Arts School of Jujutsu, Aikijujutsu & Iaido

Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu is....

an effective martial art used for self-defense and character development. Training includes physical conditioning, evasive movements, striking, throwing and immobilizations using joint locks and other methods of restraint.

Training in Daito Ryu is not a sport and it has no tournaments or competitions, but is practiced in order to improve physical conditioning, balance, flexibility and mental state. Learn to focus your mind, body and spirit to build up positive energy.

Daito Ryu is a Japanese system of self-defense handed down by Japanese warriors through the ages and was perfected in the nineteenth century by martial arts master Takeda Sokaku. Among the key characteristics are its powerful throws, pins, controls, and other self-defense techniques. Much of this power is derived from applying “aiki,” an ancient Japanese way of using subtle body movements and mechanics to gain and maintain combative advantage.

Daito Ryu was the primary technical influence on the art of Aikido. Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of modern Aikido was a direct student of Takeda Sokaku and he taught Aikijujutsu prior to his creation of modern Aikido in 1942.

Daito Ryu still contains "all" of the highly effective techniques, principles and tactics that were removed or modified while formulating modern Aikido. These techniques will provide you with a major advantage in any physical confrontation.

Kondo Sensei reminds us that in Daito Ryu there is no Ukemi since these techniques are meant to destroy the body. We "allow" our training partner to escape and take ukemi in the dojo after we execute the proper technique.

Katsuyuki Kondo Sensei, the current Headmaster of Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu Mainline Tradition gave his formal permission for me to conduct Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu classes at our dojo.
